I contacted him several times and he started off by saying 'I never used it' to 'I got it from my boy at Guitar Center and I think that he used the software'. Since I made sure to ask him about the software before getting it I told him he could either get his boy to transfer the software or give me my money back. He played games for a week or 2 and then eventually told me to f*ck off. I was pissed. I made a fake email account and emailed him saying I was my brother and a lawyer and would be talking him to court for misrepresenting the product he sold or something like that. I forget what I said exactly but after that he was quick to unregister his software so I could register it. Don't use pirated software for stuff like this. If you have legit software, you'll get updates etc. If it's pirated you may end up getting malware etc plus, when I am able to (unemployed right now) I am glad to purchase from NI. The money goes to the software we like so much and developing it further. If you got it cheap, that's why. Because you bought hardware w out software. Use it as a midi controller in another DAW until you can get legit software. But like others said, contact him and tell him you want it. If he says no and you're not willing to buy 2nd hand software, tell him you want your money back if he told you the software came with it. If he refuses, threaten legal action. If you have emails or texts tell him you have them as proof like I did and see if it works. I def understand your position and it sucks but hopefully everything will work out and he will turn it over to you (if it was supposed to be a part of the sale). Good luck man! The software serial is not tied to the hardware. They are two different licenses. If you bought a maschine controller for dirt cheap that's probably the catch. Fortunately you can usually find a second-hand software license for sale on the KVR forums from people that have upgraded hardware and have multiple Maschine licenses. I actually sold one of mine on there (after I upgraded from a Mikro to a MK2). I've also bought second-hand Maschine expansions and NI synths on KVR. Just look under the Buy and Sale sub-forum. I suspect there will be plenty of Maschine software popping up in the next month or two with folks adding a Jam to their setup. Actually, the software can be tied to the hardware at least when the Hardware and Software, for some reason, are registered as a bundle (not sure what that even means since NI support didn't really give me an answer). I have separate licenses, one for hardware and one for software, but I can't transfer either of them. I just sold and handed my Maschine MK2 to some guy but had to cancel the deal, give the money back after couple of weeks finding it impossible to transfer the licenses. NI Support basically just told me that I'm the very last owner of this product (which I don't really need, will probably try to make some of use of it now tho). Totally frustrating, and not good service. I think it would be good for everybody, if NI products would be desirable on 2nd hand markets. Now I wouldn't buy anything from them anymore and wouldn't recommend buying a used Maschine. Unless you can really trust the seller and can sort the transfer before actually spending any money and see that it works. That's odd and not my experience in dealing with NI at all. I've never had them block or refuse a license transfer. At one point I even had products spread across 4 different NI accounts under different emails. They gladly moved and consolidated them to one email login. As a seller you have to remove a serial from your account first, once you get the email confirmation then a new buyer can register it. The only reason I can think that wouldn't work would be if it was some kind of sponsorship NFR (not for resale) or educational thing, where you basically received the product for cheap or free. Perhaps the product has changed hands too many times.but I've never heard of NI doing either. Microsoft office 365 desktop setup tool. You're right actually. Found out that my Maschine is registered as NFR which makes it impossible to transfer. Original owners of NFR (not for resale) products should obviously never sell their products since they can be the only official owners. Funny thing is I bought (!!) it 2nd hand from a well known producer who knows people at NI. Now I didn't have a clue that I'm buying a NFR product. The price wasn't any cheaper than the normal resale prices at the time. Just a bit cheaper than a new one from a store. There were some issues with the serials back when we made our deal but things got solved through his contacts. Now 2 years after our deal I see where the problem was. I'd like to believe he wasn't aware that I'm not able to resell it myself. Or maybe he was just in serious need of money. Which would make our deal totally uncool. Anyway, life happens - need to be more careful next time.;) • • • • •. If you have a chance to return the unit, I'd advise you to do so, immediately. There doesn't seem to be any way around it -- you need the software licensed to your account. If you can get the seller to release the license and registration for the software and hardware, respectively, it's going to take at least 3 days (usually) for NI to complete the transfer. Was in a similar situation, recently. Bought one used from Guitar Center that didn't include the software (though it said it did, on the listing). They hadn't even deregistered the hardware.
