In the face of the overwhelming popularity of mechanicals and quarz with analogue dials, some make innovative and very different watches. And they sell. Junghans makes the RC MEGA Futura. As opposed to the very nice MEGA1000, the Futura does not have the antenna in the strap or bracelet any more. More advanced technology has seen to that. So instead of having to buy only a factory leather (antenna) strap or the factory (antenna) bracelet, one can now have ones cake and eat it too; wear a RC MEGA Futura and have a choice of any strap one might deem suitable. Seiko makes the RC/Solar SDGA with Active Matrix display While innovative, both watches have a clear heritage and lines paying tribute to earlier creations from the two watch companies. The Junghans to the MEGA1 And the SDGA003 to the Seiko 06LC I am of course a fan of the Seiko, but I must admit, that I was pleseantly surprised by the MEGA Futura also. I still like my own and other mechanicals, but can see no reason, why one should not be able to appreciate both mechanicals and innovative digis and EPDs. I know, I do:P 06LC pic from Petrus. Junghans pics from Uhrforum. I am slowly building a collection of the Junghans Mega 1. A quirky watch I enjoy wearing. Here is a 1990 version, the first year of production, in the original pyramid display box. Not as convenient for storage as the Lidl tea box being discussed elsewhere on the forum! But you need the MEGA1000 & the MEGA Futura to compliment the vintage ones:wink: I have never worn the MEGA1 - any problems or surprises with this classic to speak of? But you need the MEGA1000 & the MEGA Futura to compliment the vintage ones:wink: I have never worn the MEGA1 - any problems or surprises with this classic to speak of?[/quote] The radio control signal operates through the bracelet so you are restricted to the leather strap. Also there is no backlight so you can't tell the time at night (unless you switch the light on!) Other than that they are fine to wear and, worryingly, are a source of pleasure on an otherwise quiet day when you can see 8 watches all showing exactly the same time to the second! Must get out more! Am currently resisting the temptation to get a Mega 1000 but suspect I won't hold out for long. Hello, I have just become the proud owner of a Junghans Mega Radio Controlled ceramic gents watch 017/1631 706 It is not new and as I. Will check for review. Check some more of his writings He has dissected/compaired several digital watches. The guy is a competent electronics engineer with the proper tools and he has no qualms to take any digital watch apart. I noticed! He yanked the case back off the Futura right away! Interesting point; he does not think the Futura as finely finished as the 1000 due to the 'melted' corners/shape. The qulity of the MEGA case is higher than the Futura. The MEGA1000 has more sharp angles. I have not held the Futura, but the case of the 1000 was/is certainly finely finished. The Mega Futura has one of those designs that makes me go 'Urgh, that's too weird'. But then after the initial shock you get to appreciate it more and I now quite like it. The same process happened with Ventura, and I now own a Sparc RX and love it. I really like having my RC G-shocks, knowing they're always pretty much bang on time, so the Junghans will fit in with that. I wonder what prevented them for going down the solar route too, since they already use that technology in other watches. Perhaps it's mostly aesthetics. Given the choice, I'd probably go with the Mega 1000 over the Mega Futura, but that's without seeing them side by side in the flesh, so to speak. The mega 1 is scarce in the uk and rarely comes up on ebay. Have seen one for sale by a dealer on a digital watch forum for £400 but it has hung around for some time. When I started collecting them about a year ago you could pick up a good condition watch on ebay.de for the equivalent of £30. Finding a seller who will accept PayPal and checking the postage costs can be interesting unless your command of German is good. How xiaomi is disrupting the world. Now the market seems to have picked up and good condition mega 1's, especially with the ceramic face, sell for Over £150. The one I 'stalked' last week went for 178 euro. Bought a really nice one from USA earlier this year. It seems the mega 1 won't pick up a signal in the States so it is not much use except as an ornament! Having said that, the design is special. Understand that it comes from Frog Design who originated in Germany but moved to Palo Alto and San Francisco where they were the designers of the Apple Macintosh computers. With all this as well as being the first radio controlled watch they certainly seem to have a heritage which has been overlooked. Will be hanging on to mine I think! Got one Mega Futura today on ebay, all your fault. Hans the collector. That is too funny, Hans! I gladly take the blame for that one! How great is that, that you ordered one!:P.how ever, if you bought the leather strap equipped Futura yesterday on German ebay, you were the one who outbid ME!!:evil::evil::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen: Which ever one you got, I wish you good luck with it and look forward to seeing pics and reading about your impression about the watch:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen. I know what you mean. We are not exactly helped by the fact, that the prices for the MEGa1/Futura are not too bad either. You might consider a MEGA1000 though - see post below. Futura en route:x:lol: You too?! Great!Seems to spread like rings in the water:lol: Was it something, I said??!!:lol::lol: Which model did you go for - bracelet or leather, negative vs 'normal' display? I have been agonizing over whether or not to go for the negative display. In the end, I think, I will play it safe and get the 'normal' (black numbers on white) display and steel case. If I want black finish and negative display, I already have that in the EPD. If I want black finish and negative display, I already have that in the EPD. I went for a steel bracelet and normal display. I see that most Junghans straps are quite reasonably priced and I'd quite like both really. I think the normal display suits the clean lines of the steel case/bracelet. I had an oversized digital watch when I was about 14 but it had a thin plastic sheet rather than any sort of hard crystal so the display cracked. Looking forward to putting things right:) Thanks for bringing this lovely bit of design to my attention. Mrs P says stop it. I must admit, that I am pleasently surprised by the reception of both the Junghans and the Seiko in WT. Even though they are not for all (and why should they be - to each his own), I find them a change of pace after wearing mechanicals for years (which I still do of course - just not right now!:P ). I was prepared for only very few liking them. To be fair, you posted about the MEGA Futura when first it came out and looong before I did (the SDGA too for that matter). I had forgotten about your thread until today, when I was reminded by a link. I even posted in your thread:lol: I can see, that I preferred the MEGA1000 back then. If I ever cave and get a Futura, it will be fun to see, if that still stands. It is funny, how one progress; when you introduced the Futura, I was not very excited. I preferred the look of the MEGA100 and did not even wear that one much, far preferring my mechanicals. I only really started liking the MEGA1000 model after I had sold mine (DOH!).
